Dear reader;
In late 2022 and early 2023, I wrote the first draft of my memoir about coming of age among anarchists in Vancouver and Montréal. Once I finished it, I put it in a drawer for a very long time. To my way of thinking, editing requires fresh eyes: if you can stay away long enough to forget your work, you’ll gain a valuable new perspective upon returning. Well, the time has come to fetch the manuscript from the drawer and write the second draft.
Last fall, I tried to edit the manuscript while continuing to publish this newsletter, but pretty quickly I realized that would result in doing both things poorly, so I will be taking three months off from this newsletter to devote my full attention to the manuscript.
Come August, this newsletter will relaunch with a new name and a new look, while staying true to its mission: examining the unintended consequences of social movements. [EDITOR’S NOTE: August was overly ambitious of me! I’m pushing back the relaunch and I promise it’ll be worth the wait.] I’ll also be going through the reader survey results in the interim, so if you’d like to help shape the future of Kier Here, please add your thoughts:
I am glad you’re here, and I hope that one day you’ll be able to find a book of mine on a shelf near you. If that is to happen before my silver hairs outnumber the brown ones, I’d better get back to it!
And if you discover this newsletter while I’m on hiatus, here’s where I’d suggest you start:
Wishing you a happy and healthy spring and summer,
Kier
